Civic Education Institute – July 24-26, 2018
To support the implementation of the revised History and Social Science Curriculum Framework, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will host a three-day statewide Civics Education Institute for 250 educators from July 24-26 in Marlborough. A veteran design team led by the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) is planning the content of the Institute in partnership with the Massachusetts Center for Civics Education, Generation Citizen, and Department staff.
Participants will engage in a variety of learning experiences, including in-depth workshops on strategies for civic engagement; presentations by scholars; and hands-on planning in the systems and structures necessary to implement a robust history and social science program, with a specific focus on eighth grade civics courses. CES will open registration in mid-April.
Following the Institute, CES will host a statewide network that will provide support to history and social science educators during the 2018-19 school year. Find out more information here: Civics Institute 2018
