The Emerging America program at the Educational Collaborative in collaboration with the Library of Congress and Special Education in Institutional Settings (SEIS) is pleased to announce a new primary source set on the the Cold War Era! The following set makes available a wide range of primary source resources from the Library of Congress on a number of topics from the years between 1945 and 1980. By exploring such subjects as the Civil Rights Movement, the Space Program, and Environmentalism, the picture of a changing society becomes apparent. The second half of the 20th century is made accessible to students and teachers through not only the primary sources collected for this set but also the large number of exhibitions and activities. Students can survey an exhibition on Jackie Robinson to gain insight into the racial segregation of the early 1900s or peruse highly classified materials from the Soviet Union in an exhibit entitled “Revelations from the Russian Archives”. Finally, be sure to check out the section on primary source activities to explore such topics as the formation of the NAACP, the Vietnam War, and the Veterans History Project. The Veterans History Project is considered one of the greatest resources at the Library of Congress. The collection includes video and audio recordings, photos, memoirs, and other items from thousands of veterans. The collection includes an internal search and provides invaluable insight into the war.
